Mary Ann Maxson, MST, EA, USTCP

Mary Ann Maxson is an Enrolled Agent and United States Tax Court Practitioner, specializing in tax controversy, representing the public before the Internal Revenue Service and the United States Tax Court. An assertive and energetic perfectionist, she is a professional who is respected by her industry peers. Her practice, affectionately known by her friends and clients as "Max's Taxes", is located in Citrus Heights, California, near Sacramento.

Mary Ann became an Enrolled Agent in 1985. In addition to her over 30 years of broad based experience, her educational background consists of a B.A. in Accounting, as well as a M.S. in Taxation, both from Golden Gate University in San Francisco; where she attended on academic scholarship. Additionally, she is a NTPI graduate. She is also a member of national, state, and local Enrolled Agent societies.

Mrs. Maxson was admitted to the United States Tax Court Bar in 1995 after completing a rigorous examination with the highest published grade on record. She is the author of a national educational program assisting candidates in the successful completion of the United States Tax Court Examination. Mary Ann began developing this course while a tax court candidate herself. Today the course includes over twenty-five detailed topics, consisting of well over 3,000 pages of detailed material; covering 17 examination cycles. 

Mary Ann has assisted a diversified group of individuals in their study for the tax court examination. She has adheres to the principle that "Nothing is Imposible".  Mrs. Maxson has lectured nationwide for various professional organizations, as well as the IRS VITA Program. She was nominated for NAEA’s 1995 Educator of the Year in 1996. In 1997 she was privileged with a Presidential Citation for her contributions to education within her local EA chapter. Later she was nominated by members of the California Society of Enrolled Agents for the Thomas P. Hess Award for Excellence in Education.

Educating the public is a vital function of Mary Ann's daily routine. She places an emphasis on the fact the tax practitioner and the Government need not be adversaries. However, while she pleasures in the preparation of a tax return, she thrives when representing one. She enjoys interacting with her clients. "The client and the practitioner are partners working toward a common goal." Mary Ann states, "My philosophy is that I do not work for a client, I work with a client."
